“Those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it, while those who believe are alert* of it, and know that it is the truth”
Imam Sadiq (as) asked, O Mufazzal! How do the people of Iraq recite this verse?
I asked, O my master! To which verse are you referring?
Imam (as) replied, “Those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it, while those who believe are alert of it”.
I asked, O my master! How do you read (the end part of) it and how should it be recited?
Imam (as) replied, “… and know that he is the truth”
I said, They recite, and know that it is the truth
Imam (as) said, Woe unto you! Do you know what it is?
I said, Allah, His Messenger (sawa), and the son of His Messenger (as) know better.
Imam (as) said, It is nothing but the rising of the Qaem (as). So how can those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it?”# lmam (as) continued, I swear to Allah that only the believers (truly) “seek to hasten It.” But they (the people) misrepresented this verse out of their envy toward you (Shia). Therefore, understand this, O Mufazzal.” (Dalaelal Imama page 450)
*Note: The Arabic word used in the verse is Mushfiqoon which can also be translated as cautious, compassionate, merciful, pitiful, alert or afraid
#Note: This means that “those who do not believe in it” seek to “hasten it” only to challenge it. Just as the disbelievers challenged Holy Prophet (sawa) to hasten the Day of Judgement
